Cosmetic Dentistry

Chipped tooth or an abnormally shaped tooth? Have spacing between the teeth?

Tooth Bonding can fix minor cosmetic problems in one tooth or in a few teeth. This cosmetic dentistry procedure can change the appearance, shape and shade of a tooth (or teeth) in the same appointment. Teeth shape can be changed using of a tooth coloured composite material or resin that is sculpted and then ‘bonded’ to the natural tooth structure. The composite resin is applied and then hand sculpted by the dentist in order to create the desired tooth shape, helping produce a natural looking tooth. A large range of composite resin shades are available to help exactly match tooth colour.

Discoloured teeth or worn-out teeth? Have crooked teeth?

Porcelain Veneers are a popular cosmetic dentistry procedure that use a thin shell of tooth coloured porcelain that is bonded to the front of the patients tooth. Porcelain veneers are used to fix a number of cosmetic dentistry issues such as deep staining to the teeth, minor teeth misalignment issues that are difficult to mask using composites, cracked or mis-shaped teeth etc. Minor teeth misalignment issues can be addressed using Porcelain Veneers by re-shaping the teeth surface of the misaligned teeth, thus making them look straight. No braces are required to achieve this. Porcelain Veneers are usually long lasting and durable if looked after well.

Composite Veneers can often be a good cosmetic dentistry option under certain circumstances. The procedure involves using a composite resin to cover the tooth surface instead of a porcelain shell. The composite resin is sculpted directly on to the tooth surface, helping reshape the tooth. The composite is then hardened by the dentist producing beautiful results, typically in a single large appointment. Composite Veneers are very similar to Composite Bonding, however, Composite Veneers are used to make larger changes to the tooth shape and size. Composite Veneers are a good alternative to porcelain veneers – they are less invasive than porcelain veneers and often more cost effective.

Looking for a smile makeover?

A mix of Tooth Bonding and Composite Veneers is often used to fix common cosmetic dentistry issues such as chips, cracks and gaps in the patient’s teeth, helping create beautiful smile makeovers without damaging the underlying tooth structure. Typically 4 to 6 composite veneers are provided to the front teeth of the patient to produce a smile makeover with beautiful natural looking results. No drills and no big bills as a result.

Porcelain Veneers are the traditional cosmetic dentistry option for full smile makeovers. Typically porcelain veneers are fitted to all the patients’ visible teeth to produce a uniform, balanced smile extending to the sides of the patients mouth. Porcelain Veneers provide good long term results for colour and shape if looked after well.

Tooth Bonding

Composite Bonding (or Tooth Bonding as it’s also called) is a cosmetic dentistry procedure that involves the dentist applying a composite material to the tooth to make it look more aesthetically pleasing. Tooth bonding is usually reserved for situations where minor repairs or chips to the tooth need to be made. This cosmetic dentistry procedure is usually used to make subtle changes to the shape and length of the tooth.

Tooth Bonding is a non-invasive cosmetic dentistry procedure and typically does not require drills and needles – it is therefore reversible. It is typically used to address issues where, for example, natural teeth may be a little bit crooked, cracked, not as white, or even chipped. Results can typically be achieved on the same day.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers are one of the most common and popular cosmetic dentistry procedures used by dentists all over the world. A porcelain veneer is a thin shell of porcelain that is bonded to the front surface of the tooth in order to change the shape, position, size and colour of the teeth. Making a porcelain veneers involves stripping and preparing part of the surface of the tooth and the procedure therefore is not reversible. Porcelain veneers can take a number of appointments and sometimes up to 2 to 3 weeks to make and complete. They look very natural when made well and do not stain that easily.

Porcelain Veneers can be used to camouflage minor teeth misalignments. The cosmetic dentistry procedure can also be used to mask certain tooth defects, deep tooth stains that may have occurred during development of the tooth or trauma to the tooth. Porcelain Veneers are often used to improve the appearance, shape and symmetry of the teeth and smile. Porcelain Veneers typically last for many years if they are looked after well, giving the patient a long lasting beautiful smile.

Composite Veneers

Composite Veneers, a cosmetic dentistry procedure increasingly gaining prominence, are similar to porcelain veneers; however, instead of using a thin shell of porcelain to cover the front surface of the teeth, the dentist uses a composite material instead. A Composite veneer covers the front surface of your tooth completely with composite resin or composite material; this enables the dentist to make larger changes to tooth form and shape. Composites Veneers can be made a lot more quickly as compared to porcelain veneers, often completed in just a few hours. This cosmetic dentistry procedure is relatively less expensive as compared to Porcelain Veneers, and produces very beautiful life like results. A complete smile-makeover using Composite Veneers often costs a lot less than a smile makeover using Porcelain Veneers.

Composite Veneers are usually used to in situations where a patient needs to whiten the shade of a specific tooth, make certain teeth appear better aligned and look straighter, increase the size of a tooth and to close gaps between the teeth. Composite veneers are used when more extensive cosmetic dentistry work is required to the tooth as compared to Composite Bonding.
