Composite Bonding

Composite bonding or Tooth Bonding as its also referred to, is a popular cosmetic dentistry procedure often used to correct minor defects to the teeth in order to improve their appearance and look. The procedure involves the application of a tooth coloured composite resin material to the visible surfaces of the patient’s tooth; the composite resin is then sculpted into the desired shape by the cosmetic dentist and hardened using a special light to produce beautifully results. The composite resin material is available in a wide range of shades, thus allowing the cosmetic dentist to match the colour of the resin to your natural teeth exactly. Composite or Tooth bonding is pain free as the cosmetic dentist only changes and works on the outer surface or enamel of the teeth. The procedure is very popular with patients for it cost effectiveness and for producing natural looking results.

Dental bonding has a number of benefits – it is used to fix a wide range of cosmetic issues; these include fixing a cracked, chipped or broken tooth, whitening a discoloured tooth, fixing tooth or teeth that have worn-out and for closing spaces between teeth. Composite bonding is often considered to be a good alternative to veneers. Composite bonding is usually more cost effective as compared to veneers and is also less invasive compared to porcelain veneers, causing little to no damage to the tooth. Porcelain veneers are usually more invasive, requiring preparation of the underlying tooth before the veneer can be applied. Cosmetic procedures that use porcelain veneers also cannot be reversed whereas composite bonding treatments are completely reversible.

Veneers

A veneer is a like a thin custom made cover or shell made of either ceramic/porcelain or composite material that forms a  new surface for the front of a tooth. Veneers are very versatile and used to align protruding or crowded teeth, close gaps between teeth or lighten the colour of a tooth or teeth. With advances in modern dental technology, the appearance and also strength of good dental veneers can rival those of natural teeth. They are very popular with patients wanting to create a perfect long lasting smile.

There are mostly two kinds of veneers: porcelain veneers and composite veneers. As the name suggests, porcelain veneers are custom made shells made of porcelain that fit the front surface of the teeth. Composite veneers on the other hand are made from a tooth coloured resin material, the same material that’s used with composite bonding. Porcelain and Composite veneers have their own advantages and disadvantages, its therefore important to consider the issue you are trying to address and what veneer will be better suited, as well as your budget.

Composite Veneers – Composite veneers are veneers made from a composite resin that is applied directly to the teeth. The teeth first need to be prepared, which is done in a minimally invasive manner. The cosmetic dentist doesn’t take long to prepare the teeth for application of the composite veneers. The composite veneer is very effective at making large changes to shape and form of the tooth.

Porcelain Veneers – Porcelain veneers are made from a thin shell of porcelain instead of composite material. They are also custom made and then applied to the front surface of the teeth. The cosmetic dentist will first take impressions of the teeth, in order to enable the lab to make the veneers from the mould, a process that can take a week to 10 days typically. The cosmetic dentist will provide a set of temporary veneers for that duration while you wait. When the porcelain veneers are ready, the cosmetic dentist will then cement the thin shells of porcelain to the front of the teeth, creating beautiful natural looking teeth.

Cosmetic Dentistry Cost

How much does cosmetic dentistry cost in London Bridge?

Cosmetic dentistry has come a long way from even a decade ago. Cosmetic treatments are not as costly as they once were. With advances in new dental procedures and technology over the last many years, new tools are now available to cosmetic dentists that help automate procedures, reducing treatment time, which in turn reduces composite bonding costs for patients. Different cosmetic treatments can have different costs associated with them. For example, composite bonding procedures to correct chips and cracks or make minor changes to the appearance of a tooth can range between £160 and £250 pounds per tooth. Given composite bonding is so cost effective, it’s enabled a wide range of patients to benefit from the procedure. This wasn’t the case till even 7-8 years ago. Composite veneers and porcelain veneers are more advanced treatments and can cost more than composite bonding, typically ranging from £450 to £800 per tooth. The cost of composite dentistry treatments depend on mostly two factors. Factor 1 is the complexity of the change you want to make to your teeth and smile. If you are looking to make major changes to your smile, for example, reshaping your visible smile line, the treatment is relatively more complex and the duration will be longer as a result. It also requires multiple veneers to complete the change. Longer and more complex treatment requires the dentist to spend more time in order to make the change, which is in turn reflected in higher cost for the treatment. Factor 2 that impacts the cost of cosmetic procedures is the type of treatment you decide to use. Porcelain veneers are often more costly than composite veneers or dental bonding.
