Smile Makeover

Our Smile

Our smile is probably the first thing other people notice about us. If you have any concerns about your smile, you probably are not that willing to show off your pearly whites to others. A complete transformation of a smile that’s less than perfect can help to dramatically improve an individual’s confidence and self-image. Men and women in London who feel conscious about their teeth and smile are increasingly considering having a procedure called a ‘smile makeover’. Whether you have discoloured or crooked teeth or have a cracked or chipped tooth, a smile makeover can help do wonders for you aesthetically and also emotionally. If you are considering making cosmetic improvements to your teeth to enhance your smile, our cosmetic dentists at Whites Dental in London Waterloo can help with providing you a fully customized smile makeover.

What is a smile makeover?

No two people have the same smile. Throughout your life, a number of factors make an impact on our teeth and smile in some way or the other – that could be our drinking and eating habits that might stain teeth or a minor fall or accident that may have caused a chipped or a broken tooth – many of these factors work together to give us a little less than perfect smile. Many men and women in London are now turning to experienced cosmetic dentists to give themselves a smile makeover in order to correct their teeth imperfections. At Whites Dental, our cosmetic dentists can help develop a customized treatment plan for you to correct your cosmetic and restorative dental issues as well as improve your overall oral health, thus giving you a smile makeover to give you a perfect smile you have always wanted.
A smile makeover comprises of a number of dental procedures such as porcelain and composite veneers, teeth whitening procedures, teeth straightening through fixed or invisible braces, cosmetic crowns and also dental implants. Some procedures focus on cosmetic aspects such as composite bonding to correct tooth chips and cracks, other procedures focus on restoring your dental health and maintaining good oral hygiene such as the placement of crowns where a tooth is weak due to decay. Some patients may also need more advanced restorative procedures such as dental bridges and dental implants in order to replace a missing tooth and to protect neighbouring ones.

What treatments are included in a smile makeover?

Cosmetic dentists at Whites Dental use advanced dental materials and technologies to help men and women in London to look their best and also feel their best. If you have considered a smile makeover to improve your smile, our guide below provides details on the most commonly used dental treatments that are included as part of a smile makeover.

1.Porcelain and Composite VeneersCosmetic veneers can dramatically change and improve your smile, changing cracked, stained, crooked and gapped teeth into a natural, beautiful, even, straight smile. A veneer comprises of a thin shell of porcelain or composite material, custom built for each tooth, fixed to the front surface of the tooth to improve its appearance. Both porcelain and composite veneers provide you with natural looking teeth; with proper care, they can last for years and years. Porcelain and composite veneers each have their own advantages, for more information on each, please look up our post specific to veneers.

2. Dental Bonding and Contouring – Dental bonding and contouring are cosmetic procedures usually used to fix minor flaws to the teeth. They can help fix the size, shape, texture and appearance of the teeth without making drastic alterations to it. Dental bonding uses tooth coloured composite material to mask chips and tooth stains. Once the bonding resin has set, the cosmetic dentist polishes the composite resin material and contours the edges of the tooth, giving your tooth a natural looking finish. The procedure is quick and less expensive as compared to porcelain and composite veneers; however it doesn’t have the same longevity of veneers.

3. Orthodontic treatments – It is not uncommon for many adults to have misaligned or crooked teeth. This can be due to a number of factors. The most common factor is that they missed out on orthodontic treatment as teenagers or that on completion of their treatment, their teeth moved back due to lack of suitable retainment options. Some adults can also experience shifts in the position of their teeth as part of the natural aging process. If you have crooked teeth or an incorrect bite, this can lead to long-term and often expensive dental issues. Thankfully, bothersome tooth gaps and crooked or protruding teeth can be moved back into their correct positions even as adults, without the need to wear highly noticeable metal braces.
Invisalign, an innovative new orthodontic teeth straightening system uses clear, removable braces to straighten teeth and correct overcrowding. Invisalign braces or aligners as they are also called are virtually invisible and therefore very popular with our adult patients. Most people won’t be able to even tell you are wearing braces. Invisalign braces need a thorough exam to be carried out first to ensure your teeth and gums are healthy to enable teeth movement safely. Our dentists will develop a customised plan for you to straighten your teeth, providing you with custom build aligners from Invisalign. Treatment duration for Invisalign treatment varies based on the complexity of the case and also on your cosmetic goals; however, to give you an idea, 80% of our Invisalign treatments last between 8-10 months. On completion of their teeth straightening treatment, most patients opt to further perfect their smile using dental bonding and brighten their teeth using professional teeth whitening procedures to give themselves a dramatic new smile.
