Anti-Wrinkle (Botox) Treatments

Fine lines and wrinkles aren’t just signs of ageing – forehead wrinkles, brow frowns and wrinkles around the eyes (crows feet) can also make a person look down-beat and tired. Botox injections are a popular option for smoothing frowns, fine lines and wrinkles on the face and have been used to treat millions of patients worldwide.

Botox contains a purified protein that prevents deep wrinkles and fine lines from appearing by relaxing the associated muscles that have contracted. It also reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles that have already formed, by relaxing the muscles, thus restoring a more youthful appearance. Over a duration of time, Botox treatment re-educates muscles – time between treatments therefore increases. Areas of the face that haven’t been treated aren’t affected, you can therefore still smile and frown, but the skin on the Botox treated areas won’t wrinkle as much as usual.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Botox treatment right for me?

There are many reasons why people choose to have wrinkle and line reduction injections. We have found that a vast majority of our patients use the treatment to reduce appearance of frown lines between the eyebrows, reduce appearance of forehead lines, reduce appearance of crow’s feet and have the desire to relax facial muscles over the long-term to smoothen facial lines. Other patients have said to us that Botox helps alleviates migraine pains, treats muscle pain and reduces excessive sweating. If you suffer from any of the conditions above, Botox is likely to be the right treatment for you.

Who should not have Botox Injections?

We advise women who are pregnant or breastfeeding to not have Botox treatments. Although treatments are not known to be dangerous and no studies have been performed on this, it is best to avoid treatment during this time.

Line & wrinkle treatments are also not recommended if the patient has diseases involving nerve damage or muscle weakness. It is important to let the practitioner know if you have a family history of diseases such as Myasthenia Gravis or if you have previously suffered from Bell’s Palsy.

Patients currently undergoing treatment with amino glycoside antibiotics or spectinomycin should wait till their treatment is complete. Also, patients who have had an allergic reaction to human albumin should not have Botox treatment

Will I get the frozen face look following Botox treatment?

Our Botox wrinkle and line and treatment help reduce muscle movement, not prevent it. The frozen face look we have seen on television is due to use of overly large amounts of Botox for each treatment. Our pracititioner will administer only a small amount, just enough to address the issue at hand. We will also invite you back for a review to assess if more treatment is required.

How frequently should I have Botox injections?

To ensure best long-term results, initial Botox treatments should be 3-4 months apart typically. This will eventually become 6-12 months apart as your muscle relax and are re-educated. Our reviews are free of charge.

What are the side effects of Botox injections?

Side effects of Botox treatment are rare; it is actually one of the safest cosmetic procedures currently available.

However, there is the possibility that inadequate injection technique can result in the treatment being injected incorrectly or potentially dispersing the treatment by inadvertently massaging the area, causing temporary weakness. This is why it’s important to have treatment at a clinic which is registered by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Once the treatment begins to work, patients may notice strange temporary ‘sensations’ around the areas treated. This is caused by muscles that have not been injected adjusting to the treated muscles. Some patients can experience mild redness, tenderness, swelling or bruising post treatment; these symptoms are short-term and last only a few days.

Is there any downtime following Botox injections?

Botox treatment typically takes 30-40 minutes. There is little or no downtime, allowing you to resume regular activities immediately after treatment. We advise patients to avoid exercise and hot baths immediately after the treatment to prevent sweating out the Botox. Patients are also asked to avoid massaging or rubbing the area for 24 hours after treatment.

While there is no down-time after treatment, results are not immediate. It can often take up to five days for the results of Botox treatment to be fully visible.

There are so many bad stories in the media – how do I know everything will be fine with my Botox treatment?
