Zoom Instant Laser Whitening

Teeth Whitening is a cosmetic procedure to whiten discoloured teeth to a lighter shade using approved safe-to-use chemicals, making your teeth look brighter, whiter and more aesthetically pleasing. Teeth whitening is a non-invasive treatment, providing dazzling results for patients. The results of teeth whitening treatment depend on the severity of discolouration of the teeth – patients with severely stained teeth show the most improvement with teeth whitening, with results easily noticeable.

In-surgery instant teeth whitening (often mistakenly called ‘laser’ whitening) is a teeth whitening treatment available to patients who would much rather have their teeth whitened at the dental surgery and achieve results instantly in a little over an hour. The procedure is carried out in the practice under an LED light (not a laser light); the LED light activates whitening compounds in the whitening gel that the dentist applies on the teeth, accelerating the whitening process to a little over an hour.

Home Teeth Whitening is a teeth whitening option also available to patients who would rather whiten their teeth within the comforts of their own home. The procedure involves applying the whitening gel to the teeth for 2 – 4 weeks using custom made whitening trays.

Each method of teeth whitening has particular advantages and our specialists can help guide you, if you purely want to compare the cosmetic dentistry and teeth whitening costs then you should find plenty of resources at Whites Dental, both online and by speaking to one of our experienced team.

Instant in-clinic Laser Whitening

Philips Zoom Teeth Whitening system is a hugely popular teeth whitening treatment used by millions of people around the world. It is offered to patients in predominantly  two ways – in-surgery instant teeth whitening and home whitening. Philips Zoom WhiteSpeed, the in-surgery instant teeth whitening treatment, usually takes a little over an hour to complete; patients will leave the surgery with an instantly whiter smile. Philips Zoom DayWhite and NiteWhite are the two home whitening treatments from Philips. DayWhite is used if a patient wants to wear teeth whitening trays for a short time during the course of the day. Whitening trays have to be worn for 30 – 90 minutes, with results visible in 2 weeks. NiteWhite lets a patient whiten their teeth overnight while sleeping and is ideal if a patient prefers to wear trays at night. NiteWhite also gives good results in 2 weeks. Please read our article ‘Philips Zoom Teeth Whitening’ for more information on Philips Zoom whitening treatments.

How safe is laser whitening for teeth?

LED teeth whitening, is also known as laser teeth whitening is conducted in clinic and is an instant treatment. It is a completely safe method to achieve whitening results – often several shades can be achieved. The method of laser whitening involves the application of a gel and a white light directed at the patient’s teeth – the light acts as a catalyst to initiate whitening radicals in the gel, whitening the teeth in the process.

Philips Zoom! WhiteSpeed

Philips Zoom WhiteSpeed In-surgery instant teeth whitening system provides the dramatic results – teeth can be up-to 6 shades whiter In a little over an hour – almost instantly. The whitening treatment will help reverse food and wine stains, discoloration from certain medication etc. Patients leave the dental surgery with an instantly whiter and brighter smile.

Patients with teeth shade A2 or less (i.e. stained teeth) show the most improvement with the in-surgery instant teeth whitening system, with results easily viewable. Patients with starting teeth shades higher than A1 (i.e. whiter teeth) will show improvement as well, however, the results are not as dramatic as their teeth shade was closer to white to start with.

The treatment starts with the dentist conducting a full checkup of your teeth and gums to identify and treat any issues that could impact the whitening process (e.g. tooth decay and gum disease), are prior to starting teeth whitening.

The teeth whitening treatment is most effective when teeth are receptive to whitening – a hygiene clean helps prepare the teeth for the whitening process. We often recommend a hygiene clean prior to starting teeth whitening.

At the start of the whitening procedure, the dentist will note the patients starting teeth shade to help see the difference once the treatment is completed. The dentist will then do the following –

  1. The dentist will prepare your teeth and gums and then apply a layer of teeth whitening gel to the teeth.
  2. To speed up the whitening process, the dentist will use the Philips Zoom LED whitening lamp to apply a LED light to the teeth. The LED light acts as a catalyst for initiating whitening agents in the gel, accelerates the teeth whitening process significantly.
  3. This is then repeated four times.
  4. Once the desired teeth shade is achieved, the dentist will apply a post-treatment protective gel to the enamel; the gel helps reduce sensitivity to the teeth.

Once the in-surgery whitening treatment is complete, the dentist will provide you customised trays and a home whitening kit to take home with you. The home kit enables you to top-up the whitening treatment at home when desired.

Philips Zoom! QuickPro

The Zoom QuickPro system is offered to patients who want to just touch-up their smile or kick-start the teeth whitening process. QuickPro provides affordable, yet immediate whitening results. The advantage of QuickPro is that the patient hardly spends any time in the surgery. Patients can achieve visibly whiter teeth, with shade up to 4 shades lighter in typically around 30 minutes.

The treatment can be added to the end of a dental checkup and does not involve use of the Zoom LED whitening lamp.

  1. The dentist first prepares the patients mouth.
  2. The dentist then applies a layer of whitening varnish to each tooth. The varnish dries almost instantly.
  3. A layer of protective sealant is applied to help keep your teeth safe from any sensitivity.
  4. All that is then left is for you to brush off the varnish after approx. 30 minutes.
