Invisalign Braces in London

Many people struggle to decide between getting Invisalign or traditional braces for their orthodontic treatment. It’s a conversation we have a lot with our patients, as we help them weigh the pros and cons of each option. Ultimately, every patient is different and the best option comes down to your preferences, lifestyle, and your orthodontic needs as well as the complexity of your case.

Whether you want to close a gap in your teeth, straighten misaligned teeth, or correct a bad bite, the overall goal of braces and Invisalign clear aligners is the same: to bring your teeth into better alignment..

Straighter teeth will automatically give you a confidence boost but they will also be easier to look after in the long run. In more severe cases, orthodontic treatment can also help improve speech and reduce problems like teeth grinding.

All orthodontic treatment works by applying gentle pressure to teeth to gradually shift them in the right direction. But this is really where the similarities between traditional braces and Invisalign end.

Here’s what you should consider when you’re making your decision.

1. Appearance

We certainly have a winner here: if you are after a treatment option that doesn’t draw attention to the fact that you’re straightening your teeth, Invisalign beats traditional metal braces hands-down! Invisalign aligners are made with clear plastic material that’s virtually invisible to the naked eye––therefore most people won’t be able to tell you’re wearing them at all.

That said, there are other options that aren’t clear aligners but aren’t traditional metal braces either, such as ceramic braces. Those are clear braces are made with tooth-coloured ceramic material to blend in with your teeth. Another option we also have is lingual braces. These are a popular choice for adults because the brackets are attached onto the back of the teeth instead of the front like normal traditional braces.

2. Cost

Usually, traditional metal braces are slightly more affordable than Invisalign. While the cost of Invisalign is covered by more and more insurance companies these days, you’re still more likely to have a little more coverage for metal braces. If cost is of a concern, metal braces come out the winner here.

3. Treatment Time

Invisalign technology has advanced in recent years to make treatment time equivalent to metal braces, but this is only true when patients wear their aligners for the recommended amount of time each day (22-24hrs). Unfortunately, if you are one of those patients who have a tendency of leaving your aligners out, losing them or removing them for special occasions, it will lengthen your treatment time. Usually, treatment time is shorter with metal braces simply because they’re stuck on therefore you will be wearing them 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and they will never be removed.

However, with Invisalign you can save time in other ways. You’ll spend less time at your dental clinic because you can switch to the next set of aligners right at home, instead of having to come in to have your wires tightened every four weeks. Don’t get us wrong, with Invisalign you’ll still need to schedule review appointments every six weeks or so to check on your progress, but these appointments are quick and painless. In addition, with no wires to bend or brackets to break off, you’ll never have to disrupt your schedule to accommodate an emergency dental visit for repairs.

In conclusion, both Invisalign and traditional metal braces are effective methods of straightening teeth and correct bites, producing fantastic results.
